Arc-Flash Protection
As with any port, the Hawk IR M-Range consists of a hole or series of holes which prevent human contact with live components – fingerproof – however, this concept requires that there is a direct path to arc for a potential thermographer. If your electrical equipment has as similar protection concept then the use of PPE should be equivalent to the host switchgear with the covers in place. Otherwise Arc-Flash PPE should be worn.

Low Voltage
Due to the clearance requirements dictated by ANSI C37, the Hawk IR M-Range should be used primarily on Low Voltage indoor equipment. Installation into medium voltage equipment can be achieved but extreme care must be taken.

Fingerproof
The Hawk IR M-Range port is designed to comply with EN60529 Ingress Protection (IP) Rating of 2X. IP2X is required by IEE 413.02.01 regulations that dictate electrical guards should be IP2X – commonly referred to as fingerproof – to prevent contact between personnel and live components.

The size of the M-Range opening is 5mm and the pattern is designed for operation with all infrared cameras.

With the Hawk IR Sightglass, M-Range installed, infrared inspection of low voltage indoor equipment can be achieved quickly and with low risk. Hawk IR can help you make sure your electrical thermography is to code!
